I find those amounts incredible for this time of year

Well, it is our wettest time of the year on average.

Certainly is, this stuck weather pattern has just been directing rain band after rain band at the same places for ages now, though yesterday and today has been the worst of it. 61 days and counting here without a fully dry day!

Synop report summary

This is usually a wet time of year, but some places that are normally really wet anyway have had 2-3 times their normal rain again this month - 903.2 mm at Capel Curig in North Wales so far this month, and that's just at the foot of a mountain, not actually up it where the rainfall is going to be much heavier! And it isn't just upland areas with almost no population, Glasgow is coming up for 300 mm so far this month as well, plus they've only had 15.4 hours of sunshine.

The month so far - in the British Isles

That's more than we get in a year, so I'm not surprised it has caused serious flooding!

We get those amounts in the later half of spring and summer under thunderstorm training. August has seen 17+ inches in the city of Chicago in 1987 (over 7 inches in one night), west suburban Aurora in July 1996 saw 21 inches in just over 24 hours.

Beware of January and February. Ominous changes ahead!

December so far up to 25/12. The low temperatures shown don't even do it justice, a lot of the time our low temperature has been reached during late evening, with the temperature rising up to 13C/14C at 3am/4am

^^^ That is impressive. The warmest June I can find for here, still only managed a 3.4C average minimum.

..
But I guess it is common in the Schilly isles and western coast of UK and western coast of Ireland?

Ytterøyane started operating in 1984 and our met.office has not published any averages yet. Based on other lighthouse stations the coldest month is February with mean 3C and high/low 4/2.

No frost today so one year is confirmed. It's now barely above freezing but temperature is forecasted to rise from this point.

Pretty sure this has never before happened in Scandinavia.

Finally some interesting winter weather here. Snowfall coming
in from the SW within a few hours now, and will give 5-15cm up to tomorrow.
