In particular I wanted to show you the central photo, the ones with the flowers.
The title says "Europe, the Christmas of the flowering trees"
The first picture is taken in Turin, the second in Berlin, and both these picture show some trees that are flowering now, just before Christmas. Instead the third and fourth pictures are taken in Frankfurt and London respectively, and both show some flowers that blossomed in the last period.
The page is not so clear, but I'm quite sure that the comment says something like " out of season scenarios all over Europe, because of the mild temperatures of this winter".
It is a really strange new, in particular I thought that it was impossible to see flowers over some trees in this period of the year in these cities!
this mild weather is really extreme in its duration though. I don't think I've ever seen such a warm christmas eve before here in Lyon.
I mean, 15c is possible in december, but constant temperatures in the 12-15c range and lows above 5c for weeks on end is kinda extreme.
I'm not very knowledgeable in weather dynamics, but is this pattern similar to last summer ?
Yeah my thoughts exactly. We usually get 13C or 14C in December, but to have that constantly for so long and as an average high for the month is just insane! Our average low for this month will be nearly 10C, probably warmer than many coastal Mediterranean cities!
An Arctic outbreak is forecasted to give a low of 1C tomorrow Dec 26th.
If this Arctic outbreak does not produce an air frost, then forecast is that the rest of 2015 is safe from air frost: Yr - 'Ytterøyane' - table daily
Many other lighthouses have almost gone a full year without air frost.
Svinøy, N of Ytterøyane, has coldest low -0.3C on Feb 7th Weather statistics for Svinøy, Herøy (Møre og Romsdal)
Utsira, further S along the coast has low -0.7C on Jan 22th, Slåtterøy coldest low -0.6C on Jan 22th, etc.
Meanwhile, in Trondheim on Christmas Eve, a high of 11C and still some roses around:
A year without frost in Norway? That is just beyond ridiculous. I know it's mild for the latitude but the coldest month averages 1? 2?C along that coast. Even places on the south coast of England that average 5-6C in winter rarely if ever go a year without air frost.
15C here at 9am on Dec 26th. Mad...
