I chose Madrid as well. Do you know any decent links explaining the differences in climate within the Madrid area (in Spanish is OK)? I imagine the differences would be relatively big given the topography.

Definitely Panama. I like hot humid nights and heat.

You would say the region of Madrid.
So, there is not much difference within a 15 km radius to the center of the city, as is at an altitude of 550-600 m above sea level.
However, next to Manzanares river, at 550 m asl, low averages within winter clear nights tend to be lower than the rest of the city, because temperature inversion.

Then, when moving westwards, the altitude change up to an altitude of 700 or so, which bring them lower averages all year round.

When moving 65 km away northwest to the city, you can hit my town just to experience much lower temperatures, you know.

Are there any weather stations near where you live that I can compare to Madrid itself?

Madrid for me. Drier than I like, but nicer temperatures over the year. The coldest 5-6 months of the year there are similar to the coldest 5-6 months here, although less rainfall/rain days would give a different feel.

The Madrid wiki article mentions sunshine varying between 2000-3000 hours of sunshine a year. I wouldn't think Madrid has that variability.
