The Southern NY Catskills are removing snow in some spots this morning! Above 1300'

This was from yesterday. I wonder what the update is as more is falling. Not sure if in same spot though.

Actual Balloon Sounding confirms it was below freezing at the 850mb level over Greensboro, NC. Notice right above that level it warmed back to just over freezing then as you climbed higher it dropped back down.

39 over at PDK - pretty chilly.

I'm curious - why does frost only form on cars when they're parked out in the open, as opposed to the carport? It's still exposed to the air - why does the surface have to be exposed to the sky in order to get frosted? This is the reason why I don't own an ice scraper - no need for one, due to the carport.

Not entirely sure. I assume the car port keeps it a tab bit warmer.

How far will the snow squalls go today? Lake Machines are on. Now -10C over NE Ontario lake. Wow! That is fetching a feed all the way towards the Catskills of NY

The effect is the same as with cloud. When you park in the open and the temperature drops, the warm air near the ground can flee freely into the atmosphere. When you have a roof over your car, the warm air radiates back down from the roof and doesn't escape as quickly. Works also if you park under a big tree.
Same with clouds, they work as a blanket and traps the warmer air, while clear nights are colder because the warm air can escape quickly into the atmosphere.

Nice autumn day. Windless and clear skies, temps around 50F.
