Damn, after today not a single high above the low 40s for Raleigh. Looking pretty chilly.

Forecast is looking pretty decent for my area. Five out of the next seven days are forecast to be in the 60s for highs.

Isn't that going a bit overboard, considering your climate?
actually if we talk about regional laws, a large part of the Emilia Romagna province is hilly, this is the north of the apennines and the highest point around here is Monte Cimone which still reaches 2165m.

Snow is actually quite common (not this year though), and can get heavy and stay for weeks, especially in the hilly areas. We do have a 2.8c average for January here at 35 m asl, so obviously the hilly areas are probably colder and snowier.

A large part of Italy is hilly actually, the only part which is not is the Po Valley, but this part is also one of the coldest and sees snow regularly (i.e. at least a few times in a normal winter). Of course this is much less than in your area, but some strong episodes can happen.

I don't think such a law exists for Naples area or mediterranean places like Salento, but remember Italy holds the world's record for heaviest single snowfall, not Canada

yep sucky week. At least the sun will be out . average high is climbing up yet we get the coldest temps for winter now. Most of the week will be 15 -20 degrees below normal, larger deviation from normal than when it came to the warmth of late jan early feb. Looking forward to next winter already, talks of a strong la nina have me hyped for a winter 1949-1950 repeat, a Florida winter in Raleigh, possibly even warmer than 1949 -1950 perhaps? when you get acceptable weather in Miami that usually means I get stuck in the freezer in Raleigh.

Don't count on it. The warm PDO is going no where. Despite ChiGeorge claiming La Nina next year, the warm water will be back in the Pacific because we are currently back in the warm phase of the PDO. The cold phase lasted about 5 years lol and is gone. When the cold AMO kicks in count on 1980's level of cold in Raleigh.

For us to have another 1949-50, we need colder than avg water off the PNW. What you need is basically for Vancouver and Seattle for once to have a well below avg winter instead of us. Then you will get warmth you desire. For us in the East there is only one way we get a truly above avg winter, and that is for the West to have a colder than avg winter.

Just look at how cold Seattle got in 1950. They went down to 3F. That is what we need for another 1949-50 in the East. I'll believe that cold PDO and La Nina when I see deep blue anomalies in the water off of Seattle, instead of the constant red and yellow we have seen for three solid years now.

Raleigh Data from latest Euro12z. Looks like by 7pm Thursday it will be below freezing at the surface then stay in the 30s on Friday. By 7pm Sunday Euro says it will be 20°F at the surface and not get past freezing Sunday and Monday

Maybe snow to start Monday night change to rain? No precip during the cold except tonight.

They are not Midwest. Minnesota, Chicago, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan are Midwest. Buffalo is Northeast, Great Lakes or Ohio Valley more then Midwest. But aside from that.....

Don't forget, their normal is lower.

Looks like Sundays max we will have a bigger departure.

Hard to see but looks like 20 below for them. 24 for us? Forecast by WPC.

Way too liberal. Those places in the NYC metro area haven't seen those kinds of numbers since the 80s, and I don't see it happening now.
