I have to see the data but I believe september has been really normal here, at least temperature-wise. After all those warm months it has felt kinda cool, but I don't think it has been a particular month.
One day I'll take the time to make those graphs... One day.

I watch Bologna's stats every day in ogimet hahaha. It was a nice month for me.
September has been warm, with an incredible heatwave in the middle (hottest temperature of the year and record hottest temperature for September). Not particularly sunny and moderately wet.

September in Trondheim. As much as 2.7C above the old 1961-90 normal, and almost 2C warmer than June! - which was very cold. But compared to 1982-2010, September 2015 was "only" 1.3C above average.
A cloudy month. Despite cloudy weather, only 65 % of normal precipitation. However, early autumn has got less wet here the last decades.
Warmest min: 16C. Coldest high: 11C
I will be back with a look at Norway when I get some time. It was a warmer than average month.

Precipitation is only normal because of the big rain event at the end of the month [note only five days of precipitation for September; threshold is 0.1 inch]. The month here:
2nd warmest September on record, a few stations in the regions recorded the hottest September on record [their record period was shorter, though]. Warm, mostly dry and sunny. Nice, though an annoying few days of heat + humidity around the 10th. By dewpoint, the last day was among the highest of the month — reached 73°F. Nights stayed mild as well, except for a few days. But the high temperatures were more above average than the low temperatures; as is expected in a dry sunny month under a ridge. Now the rest of the year.
May was also near record warmth, but not quite as hot as September [September averages hotter than May normally]. Like September, May was dry and sunny. June was the opposite, wet and cloudy for a summer month. It had lower maximums than both May or September but minimums weren't cooler than usual and definitely warmer than the previous month. One of the few years where September was warmer than June [last time was 2002]. Also August was warmer than July [last time in 2003, also happened 2002]. Our July and August precipitation was around average; but it was from hit or miss thunderstorms, many other areas got much less. Rivers have been low; vegetation got a dry-ish look this September. But nowhere as obvious as downstate NY which was in a moderate drought.
The unusually warm May and September made summer feel longer and made the seasonal transitions feel especially sharp and more continental. In particular coming out of a record-breaking February and well below average March it felt like there was little spring this year. This year has been one of the more extreme ones, though no big heat waves and the above average weather was on the edge of summer rather than midsummer, so summer didn't really feel more intense.
