Weather News - Southeast to have a cold, wet and windy end of January

"Melbourne, even more notably, has experienced the longest run of cold days in January on record. The city sat below 23 degrees for the past four days, much cooler than the average of 26 degrees."

Temps here are expected to be as cold as 21C, ****en 13C below average FFS. An unprecedented disaster.

Yes, more people and that it's immune to traffic disruptions. The 550 bus is often stuck in traffic jams, and several 550's can get stuck after each other, disrupting the schedule. Additionally, the light rail enables a lot of new residental developments near the light rail line. The 550 cannot really take this, as already now 12 million passengers ride it annually. For comparison the whole old tram network with 13 lines have 57 million passengers a year.

Don't think so, eastern Long Island is just as warm. Mild coastal air coming from the south.

I just saw a map like that on the CT weather thread after I posted that. The end of Jan will be mild.

Interesting proposition. Hope it comes to fruition.
They're building an east-west light rail line in Nice right now, 3.6 km of which will be underground in the city center:

Nice : compte à rebours pour la ligne 2 du tramway

Though unlike Helsinki, it will more than double the lenght of the light rail network. Helsinki was smart enough not to get rid of its network after WW2.

In other news, my (mandatory) smoke alarm is killing me. Don't I have the right to overcook my meals anymore?
