Love the Gulf..... Hate the Gulf

I'm telling you guys.. With PWAT values this high in August, don't be surprised with those Amazon bucket like downpours....and lightning given the heat around

Quick discussions from NWS offices around..

Quote:
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
316 PM EDT TUE AUG 9 2016

Given the expected heat and
high moisture content in the air, localized downburst convective
winds are the main threat (convection will probably produce a lot of
lightning
). PW values increasing to 2-2.5 inches will result in
locally very heavy rain (farther south the storm motion should be
slower).
Quote:
National Weather Service Taunton MA
147 PM EDT TUE AUG 9 2016

PWAT values are very high, 2-3 STD above normal so within and
shower/thunderstorm, could see heavy rainfall as the main threat.

Flow aloft will pool in Gulf/tropical moisture into the region
during this time frame. This could result in dewpoints in the low
70s.
Quote:
National Weather Service Binghamton NY
130 PM EDT TUE AUG 9 2016

A big transition will occur in terms of moisture during the next
36 hours. While it remains dry for now, a south to southwest flow
tonight into Wednesday will bring a significant influx of
precipitable water
which will include some showers and
thunderstorms that could contain locally heavy rain.

Ridging aloft will then flatten tonight through Wednesday morning
as an embedded shortwave passes. This will occur just as a plume
of deep moisture, with a Gulf connection,
advects out of the Ohio
Valley into our region courtesy of southwesterly low level jet of
20-30 knots. Precipitable water values will get to around 2
inches, eclipsing 2 standard deviations above normal which for
August is saying something

Rochester hit 90 for the 18th time today, next 2 days should be over 90 as well.
2013,14,15 had 16 90+F days combined.

Drought Buster?

See the plume and the orientaion of the front?

Also note 3 important things..

1. this is a 7 day total which means less than inch a day on average.

2. A Thunderstorm can easily drop 1-2" so if u get a few of them you'll be over forecast amounts next 7 days.

3. I dont think its going to be a steady rain day after day..maybe for some lucky one?

Crazy period we have
