Actually, I've found that strong lovely memories make me feel much better than vanities and materials.
If I think back on my best memories, they won't be when I've played computer games for months on end during school breaks, they'll be vacations and time spent with the ones I love.
That's nice - but cars and computers have more than just a material meaning - they are useful tools. GymFanatics post implied that they are mere luxuries, with which I disagree wholeheartedly - for obvious reasons.
And I would also rather go on a holiday than play computer games - which are a complete waste of time. But there are a million and one other far more useful activities possible with a computer than just playing computer games.

Not many useful things you can do on a computer that you can't do on a smartphone these days.
True for some things, but a smartphone is basically a mini portable computer anyway and they're pretty expensive. I don't have one and don't want one. I still have an old Nokia actually.
I personally use my computer for my main job (working from home) so it earns my living - running software that wouldn't work on a smartphone. Seems pretty useful to me. And when I want to go out - I can't take it with me and be distracted by it - and I like it that way.

I'm the same, that's why I spend my money on holidays rather than cars.

The point is that the Maintenance Loan in the UK is supposed to be used for paying for University Living Expenses.
Memories ironically are much more valuable in the long run than material objects. I dont know why, but memories just make me feel so much better and more confident with myself. Which is why Id rather spend money on vacations too
