A selective, state-funded, non-fee paying secondary school. You take an exam when you're 10 or 11 and you need to pass a certain mark to get in. Sometimes seen as good because it means smart but poor students are given an equal chance, as opposed to fee-paying schools where they are automatically excluded.
Some people still dislike them though because grammar schools still primary benefit wealthier children and are almost always located in wealthier areas. It's usually a very middle-class affair.
BTW, do the court verdicts in England reflect the general conservativism of the areas they operate in? In Finland the Royal Courts (yeah they are called that, ie the courts of appeal) tend to hand out harsher punishments for some crimes like white-collar crime, but more lenient for rape and such in Eastern and Northern Finland, while the opposite in Southern and Western Finland.
Fat bastards in Barnsley. It's no surprise to see the poorer areas having the fattest people. I don't get that though. How can you have no money, yet still afford to get obese? Clearly feeding themselves is high on their list of things to do, and probably a fair bit higher than finding a job.
Just checked the whole map. I didn't realise pretty much every living organism in Scotland is obese. Interesting. I guess the fantastic scenery they have to explore isn't enough of a pull to get them away from the fridge.
