My theory is most people only think only they're nice because they visit in the summer. Med climates are cool and wet with no snow in winter. Many have constant fires in the summer because of drought. Can't grow anything without using irrigation. The natural landscape is barren and rocky with plants that look like weeds growing everywhere instead of trees. The only areas that look lush are because humans are constantly pumping them with water. Sure it may be nice to visit the Spanish coast for a week in the summer when it's 18 degrees and overcast in your little village in England, but for global year-round climates, Mediterraneans have got to have one the least interesting weather patterns. For me anyways. I understand the appeal for some people, but I'd rather have weather that can support beautiful forests to explore, snow to brighten the winter days or summer thunderstorms to fall asleep to. Med climates have none of these things.
There's a large difference between Mediterranean and Mediterranean though. They can vary wildly in terms of precipitation and precipitation days, and that's ignoring vast temperature differences. Southern France isn't the same as Southern California. And just stroll around San Rafael in street view and say it isn't lush. San Rafael still only gets 12 days of precipitation in its wettest month. https://www.google.se/maps/@37.95896...8i6656!6m1!1e1
I can see why people would like them, but personally I dont like them. No snow in winter, just days of cold rain. We may get 1-2 in a winter month, those places get 8-12 at least. No variability or anything of interest. Then summers are close to rainless with no storms and stable conditions and often hot nights. Boring, unpleasant winters and meh summers. They would beat any tropical or oceanic climates or other very rainy climates.
Med climates are literally the best climate, especially with a slight continental influence. Saying otherwise is literally wrong and punishable by death.

All those trees are probably because of human planting, irrigation and watering. Not native vegetation. It's true that there's variation in Mediterranean climates but they all have these things in common.
maybe because of the "no rain = low humidity" perception (in summer) which isn't always true. look at malta for example, in which summer dewpoints could be 20c or higher
Many Mediterranean Climates are not gloomy, cold and wet in winter.
You still get plenty of sunny and mild days in winter in many Mediterranean Climates. (And that's based on experience)
I can see why people like Mediterranean climates (they're objectively the most "comfortable") but I agree that personally they're extremely overrated.
