Here in Minneapolis, Spring takes FOREVER to get here. This has to be the hardest time of the year for me because I am so over winter, but we still have March to get through before there truly is light at the end of the tunnel. Things start blooming by the middle of April, but full bloom is not until the first or second week in May.
Feels like spring today!
Here you usually start to feel slight warming in the second half of February. But this is more winter losing its grip than spring arriving. Even in April it is possible to have non-accumulating snow. Highs in the 60's don't typically occur until mid April. That's when trees start to bloom.
On 2nd June 1975 snow at a cricket match here in Buxton stopped play. The match had to be cancelled. 2" of snow accumulated. So here anything can happen and for all I know there could be a blizzard on 26th May.
I have only been in NC for one Spring... last year the Forsythia started to bloom by the end of February, and the Bradford Pears and Daffidils shortly after. Spring is amazing in NC! I can hardly wait! I'm happy to report that it feels like Spring today, sun is shining, high 50s! Yeah!

When do trees start blooming in your area?
About the same as you for Toronto...
(too-late in arrival, but otherwise it's pretty nice)
Winter isn't usually over before the last few days of March. (Mar 27-30th?)
Spring, as in flowers don't usually start until about mid-April.
Trees don't usually "bud" until early May.
April typically has early spring bulbs,
the lawns become a lush, rich green,
but the trees still look bare.
Early-Mid May is when we expect the "jaw-droppingly gorgeous" Spring scenes.
Late-May usually looks summer-like, just feeling like a cooler-version of summer.
People around here (meaning Wisconsin) are talking Spring knowing full well we have March to get through! In fact, they are talking snow Monday into Tuesday!
Really, I'm about the same as CC, I think. I've seen wild crocus peek out around here even with snow on the ground, late March, early April. Our trees definitely don't show leaves until mid-May. I get out in my yard, start picking up sticks, branches in April.
A flower bed on the west side of my garage is an early starter because of the garage wall, sun beating on it, things start to come up early. I'll start checking it the very beginning of April, as I'm anxious!
In Houston you just never know. sometimes it's spring (or even summer on Christmas day). Last year my azaleas bloomed in January Tomorrow we get into the 70's then the temp drops again. Usually it's in full force the first of March. I really hate spring because it means summer is knocking at the door and I hate summer even more.
