The winter of 2005-2006 in Indianapolis was not a particularly harsh winter, as a matter of fact, January 2006 was ranked in the top 5 warmest Januaries on modern record........
February 11 or so, 2006 we had a then-record snowfall of 26.7 inches. December was below average, January pure torch, and most of February, excpt the day of the storm above-average. 1971-2 was the tail end of a 2 1/2 year Niña transitioning to a super-Niño. December was torch, January a bit above-normal with a few short and sharp cold snaps. February was cold and somewhat snowy. March and April were below-normal.
3 yrs had a similar SST configuration with the cold waters on the East side of ENSO regions..

I'll try to post the graphics soon
1954-55 and 2005-06 were pretty crappy here.
1971-72 was excellent with a DJF total of 116.9cm in Vancouver and 188.7cm in Burnaby which borders Vancouver to the east. Similar to this year,It also featured an early season snowfall.
05 was a dry summer for my area and 06 was super dry in the summer. Both winters were cooler than what i have seen the last 6 winters, but still above normal.
