60F was our high yesterday afternoon around 4PM or so. This morning at 8AM it has dropped to 16F with a -2F wind chill. Talk about a shock to the system! We dropped 20 degrees in less than an hour last night between about 5:15 and 6:15 when the front came through.

The high temperature in Athens, GA yesterday was 81°F, which was a record for the day, and would have tied the record for the month had it not been broken last year (83°F on February 22 and February 24). This is the fourth consecutive meteorological winter with multiple record high temperatures, with two in 2015-2016, four in 2016-2017, five in 2017-2018, and now two in 2018-2019. This is also the fifth meteorological winter this decade with at least one, with 2010-2011 and 2013-2014 each having one. Here's hoping that this is just a phase, much like the snowless winters I experienced in Pittsburgh from 1986-1987 to 1991-1992.

Anyway, temperatures here in northeast Georgia are in the upper 50s right now, and the cold front is pushing through Atlanta. Thank God the heat is about to be wiped away. It'll be nice and chilly this weekend with a cold-air damming event, and next week appears to be mild, slightly above normal, but nothing ridiculous like this week. I can live with highs in the lower to mid-60s and lows in the lower to mid-40s. I just hope we get one last shot of cold air before this winter runs its course.

Usually what you get, I end up getting but nothing crazy happening. I haven't looked into it but I see highs are 30s and lows are 20s here. Nothing crazy. So not sure if that air you're getting is just dissipating as it moves east, or the front never passes south or East enough for us to get it.

You guys in the Southeast are ruining the Average temp for the U.S and the globe. lol.

Definitely Cyclical. (a phase). During the 1980s when it wasn't snowing each winter I was wondering if that was it forever. Little did I know we'd make up for it after 2005. So one decade you'll look back at this heat and say, "that was a crazy period".

But what Bastardi does is his usual selective bias bs and doesn't show the Euro. And 2" of precip with 2" of snow means snow turning into a deluge of rain, which has happened all winter here.

Well yesterday was interesting. Started the morning in the low 70's and ended in the evening in the low 40's. High was midnight.

As an experiment I watched the temp and humidity in the house. Of course the furnace didn't kick on yesterday so this was just a test of the insulation of my house and how well it holds heat/humidity in and the cold out.

7AM inside 73F with 56% humidity, ceiling fans on, 69F outside 96% humidity
12PM inside 72F with 56% humidity, ceiling fans on, 58F outside 56% humidity (arctic air mainly lowered dewpoints at this point)
5PM inside 70F with 52% humidity, ceiling fans off, 46F outside 46% humidity

This morning, 70F on (furnace kicked on overnight) 39% humidity inside, 33F outside with 53% humidity and sleet.

I just lit a fire in the fireplace. Took picture of the sleet. Nothing stuck to the ground or even the deck but it stuck to the insulated top of my chair cushion.

Not much time on my end to analyze but

GFS says heavy snow Tuesday morning, changes to rain Tuesday afternoon

Canadian says heavy snow Tuesday afternoon and evening then changes to rain Tuesday night.

Euro says heavy snow Tuesday changes to ice

Quick summary.. There is a storm that will go from Southern Plains towards Great Lakes on Monday (NEVER a great track for us here). But what happens is a new coastal storm will form. So cold air will stay in place for us but the track of both these storms will determine what we get!!

Need that Great Lakes storm to shift East more so not a lot of warmth comes up but not too far east because it can kick the coastal storm out too far. We also need both these storms to start merging further south.

Details. Details.
