Have a look at this... quite rare in AU to go from nearly 100f ( 37.4c ) to below freezing in the space of a week !
Eyre, WA near the coast of the Great Australian Bight.

Pineapple-like system appearing on Saturday. It's what I like to term 'fake cold' because while the max temp is low, the min temp is rather mild, so it's really just a lid being kept on under heavy cloud and showers (with a warmish airmass).

Heavy rain forecast for the hills over the next 36 hours, with up to 450mm forecast - not likely to be a lot here despite only being 20km away, due to rain shadow ... but always a chance if the system stalls.

The time of year where praying mantises are everywhere - got home from work yesterday and there were dozens on the outside walls.

A blast of wintry weather on the way for Southeast Australia this weekend.

5 day total for the wettest back country station here(Paradise)running at 1027mm, with some heavy rain forecast for tonight.

Rather more modest totals for the coast with sites recording between 104mm and 332mm for the last 5 days, but haven't seen the sun in a long while. The constant dampness has made the rats very brazen - have to keep the doors shut now, after I saw a rat run through the front door.

That's a lot of rain. Does that mean it snowed like 10 meters in the high mountains?

No, still too warm with some nights not dropping below 16C and the freezing level at around 3000 metres. Late Wednesday does see a southerly change though with up to 65cm forecast at about 1650 metres, and the snow level down to 800 metres. Thursdays forecast for here is only 3C-15C.

Further south there has probably been some big snowfall above about 2500m, but unfortunately NZ doesn't record snowfalls until ski areas open, and they are traditionally in low snowfall areas anyway.

A good coat of snow on the hills this morning, looks to be down to about the 1000 metre mark.

Might have to light the fire this evening.

Some good rainfall totals in SEQ which could prove very helpful if a transition to El Nino conditions eventuates later this year. The big winner was the Gold Coast hinterland with up to 168mm. Brisbane scored 61mm.
