The weather this week has been frigid for many. Poor New Yorkers are buried in 8 feet of snow. The weatherman keeps saying the days are getting a little longer, but it's hard to notice it just yet. I know if I still lived up north, I'd be feeling the walls closing in.
I was just wondering what do you do to keep busy or have some fun? Maybe you enjoy the cold and take advantage of the snow to go skiing or sledding? Maybe a movie or a shopping trip takes away those wintertime blues? Maybe a mini vacation is the only kind of break that will help.
What do you do to get by as you count down to spring?

I've been XC skiing like a madwoman!

I also love to:

Catch up on my reading.
Make soup.
Bake bread/cookies.
Build fires (uh, in the fireplace ).

I'm definitely a "light one candle...." type.

I've been making soup as well, and forcing myself to go out and not become a hermit (I'm going out tonight even though I don't want to, but I know if I don't I'll regret it). The temps haven't risen above freezing for the last two weeks and aren't predicted to for the next week. I just got my heating bill and it wasn't a pretty one.

The freezing temperatures have frozen our river. Here are some pictures.

We might get the first true snow of the season this week...not holding my breath though. We've gotten about 2" total all season. The norm is about 10" more by now, and 15-18" total.

I'm getting sick of winter. I don't like cold, clear, windy days. I like breezy autumn days, but breezy winter days suck. Basically: if there's no snow, I don't like winter. Snowy winters with hot chocolate rock. Clear, cold winters with nothing to do are super boring.

Spring will be here in more or less a month though, so if this snow happens, it could well be the only big one this year.

8 feet of snow? Wow and Oil city gets "only" 16 inches of snow per winter month which melts away if the highs exceed 32 degrees. When(not if) I move north, ill be playing in the snow and building snowmen, have snowball fights with friends, have contests involving snow like who can hit the most trees

Well, that's an average and they could get frequent-enough storms that add up to more. Plus, the snow doesn't melt very quickly unless it's in the 40's and/or sunny. 32 is not gonna melt it like clockwork or anything.
