Just a note that weather –watchers might find interesting:

There are few weather records that exist longer than those recorded at Charleston, SC, Newport, RI, and NYC (in the USA).

NYC is now 7 days away from recording it’s warmest April in 141 years or records (which started in 1869). The monthly mean temp this month in NYC (Central Park) today stands at 59 F…the current record holder is 1941 with 56. 9 F. On April 7th…NYC recorded it’s earliest 90 F temp (the temp hit 92 F).

From what I can tell (a quick glance)…cities from Virginia to Rhode Island…are closing in a record warm April.

It has been an exceptionally warm April, especially the beginning of the month. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the warmest.

Next several days are looking cool, but it may not be enough to "unbreak" any records.

Yeah usually in April temps are in the 50's and sometimes we even get wet snow. This year, in early April, we've had several days in a row in the 70's and even some 80's. I wish every year was this warm.

I disagree. While 70s are certainly nice, its just too early. It was more like May instead of April this year.

It was also very sunny this month. So far only a few days of cloudy weather.

I just like early/warm springs. After a cold winter (which I don't really mind), I want warm weather to come as soon as possible. A couple of years ago (I think it was 2007) we had a very cold drizzly April. We didn't break the 60F barrier until maybe last week of April IIRC. I hated it. This year's April is so much better.

Maybe I should move to northern China. Looking at stats, seasons there change fairly quickly - temperatures warm up at a fast clip in the spring and fall just as fast in the, uhh, autumn.

I have a feeling it's going to be a ridiculously hot summer in many places in the northern hemisphere this year....

The rest of the month looks like it will be cool enough to knock those averages down a bit but the entire eastern seaboard north of about Cape Hatteras is closing on one of the warmest Aprils of record.
Folks living in D.C. and Philadelphia who had to endure snowfalls that could have gone toe-to-toe with any lake effect event in the last 70 years are probably very pleased that things turned out as they have.....
.....Those of us on the West Coast didn't have it so well. Clouds and gloom ruled the month in Oregon and Washington while an unusually strong polar jet brought cold temperatures and (for them) heavy rain to the Sacramento and San Joachin Valleys of California. From Redding clear down to Bakersfield temperatures ranged from 2.5 to 5 degrees below long term averages and rainfall totals were greater than 200% of climatological norms. Not record cold or even record wet, but a pretty sub standard month all the same.

I think the rest of April would have to average 50°F for it to be the record hottest April (in NYC). It looks like the next week will be close to that but not quite (most of the night temperatures are forecast to be in the high 40s making the average of 50 unlikely).
