I may be offered the chance to relocate to the area for a great job in Juno Beach and wonder what the best spot is for a single, professional woman who loves running, biking, swimming, horses. I'm from West of Philadelphia, where we have terrific little towns, upscale but not snobby.

Where's the lowest crime area? Are the people friendly? Any place that seems to attract older but active single people? Price range to buy is $350,000-ish. I'd like to rent for a good while before I settle on a place.

Obviously, I'm looking for lots of advice and appreciate whatever anyone has to offer.

Thanks,

C.

Hi, we moved to FL from West Chester, PA...sounds like the area you are from.

Jupiter, Juno Beach, and Palm Beach Gardens would be excellent for a 50s single gal. Crime is low. Join a tennis club such as Jupiter Ocean tennis and you will have an instant social group. If you don't play, lessons as offered and are lots of fun.

Horses??, you would like Jupiter Farms. You can rent a house on 1.25-2.5 acres, be surrounded by horse farms, and still get to the beach and Palm Beach Gardens shopping with ease.

Jupiter beach is dog friendly. Another great way to meet people. The mornings and evenings are prime meet and greets for people and their pups. Running and biking along A1A is paradise, lots and lots of active people there.

Rent first, like you said. Prices are falling, rentals are everywhere, landlords are desperate. Rent, learn the area, and pick up a house for less in a year or two.

Honestly, I could not think of a better area for you than Jupiter-Juno Beach-Palm Beach Gardens.

Hi Coquina: We moved to Florida from Philadelphia in 1996. We settled into the Palm Beach Gardens area and loved it. Once I was married, I lived in Jupiter. I think you would be really happy in Palm Beach Gardens. There is lots to do--shopping, restaurants, and the mall. My mom is in her late 50s and she is very active (plays golf, likes to swim, shop, go out to dinner) and she lives right by the Gardens Mall in an area of three-story townhomes. In the past few years, so many rental opportunities have opened up so you won't have any problem finding somewhere to live in the area. The good thing with the Gardens is that you're close to the beach (and McArthur State Park which is beautiful), you can go south to West Palm Beach, or Palm Beach, you can travel to Jupiter if you want to ride some horses and you're close to PGA National if you want to play golf or spend a relaxing day at the spa.
