I thought the area near 'city place' might be what you're looking for. It sort of has a 'hip, trendy' vibe. Cute condos all around. However, I don't know about the rest of the area. I'm not a fan of West Palm Beach though I love the city I live in. It's pretty trendy here and slow paced? Yes very much so but there's not much in the way of diversity.....I think you're looking for a slightly urban yet classy environment.

I live in Wellington and although its quite family orientated, its also very "New Money" and Wannabee's ! Half of them turn their noses up, when if you look behind their ego, they are mostly strapped up to the eyeballs in credit.
Depending on how old you are the actual island of Palm Beach is mainly old, rich retiree's, which are in life to chill out and take it easy.
Fort Lauderdale is probably the best suggestion, then you are in between both Miami and West Palm and can take out of it whatever fills your frills for life...good luck. If you need any other info on Palm Beach County, let me know, I will be happy to answer any questions, Kind Regards

IN PALM BEACH THERE ARE SOME DOWN TO EARTH PEOPLE. ESPECIALLY IN DOWNTOWN DELRAY. I LIVE IN "THE HOLE" AND I GET ALONG WELL WITH MANY PEOPLE WHO OWN SHOPS. ALOT OF RETIREES AND NEW YORKERS EVERY WHERE IN SOUTH FLORIDA. AS AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN, I HAVE GOOD FRIENDS WHO LIVE IN THOSE WONDERFUL CONDOS AND OWN BUSINESSES. SO YOU WILL LIKE PALM BEACH COUNTY. SOMETIMES RACE CAN BE A BIG ISSUE CAUSED I USED TO WORK AS A BUS BOY FOR "CHRISTINA'S" AND AT LEAST THREE TIMES A WEEK I WOULD GET CURSED OUT. SO THERE ARE A FEW RACIST PEOPLE. BUT I HOPE YOU FIND IT INTERESTING!
