Hi everyone! My family are planning to move to South Florida and thinking that the Palm Beach area would be the most ideal place for us to move given the fact that weather is great and traffic may not be as bad as Miami and Fort Lauderdale. We are from Jacksonville, FL (Southside area) and are looking for a community similar to that of Southside Jacksonville (for those who are familiar with the Jacksonville area). Boca Raton, Wellington and West Palm Beach are our main focus but are open to other PBC areas. We are looking for a place that's near good private schools and safe for families.

My husband and I are both in the health care profession, so proximity to hospitals and/or health facilities must be taken into consideration.

I am looking forward to your advise. thanks!

For that family suburb feel, add Jupiter, parts of Royal Palm Beach, and Palm Beach Gardens to your list.

I'll also add Southside West Palm Beach to your list, if you're looking for a good neighborhood with no HOA and no gates.

Thanks for your suggestion. We are planning to go down south for a few days and scan/feel the area before we decide on a specific community.

I have relatives that just moved from the Southside of Jax. (they loved it but unfortunately their jobs fell apart.)
I'd agree with Tri (as always) on the recommendations. If you would like to give a little more info like what price/size range you are considering, whether you would like to be in a gated/non gated community, etc we could give you some more specifics for when you come down.

Thanks for the post! It took me quite a while to reply, sorry. We visited Palm Beach county for a few days last week and we are leaning towards moving to Boca Raton because of its proximity to Fort Lauderdale and Miami Universities and its small city feel. We are planning to move to an apartment first and feel the place before deciding on purchasing a house. A gated apartment complex area would be a plus but it's not a requirement for us. We have checked out apartments in the Palmetto Road area and they are pretty nice, although the application fees and security deposits are a little steep (non-refundable, too). Any advise or suggestions?

Well if you want good schools stay with Boca or Wellington.....Boca being better choice...also depending
where you live, go with Spanish River High School, very good.....Look into renting a house for a year.
Might be a little cheaper....but definitely rent before you buy....That's the smart thing to do...good luck

the problem with renting a house is if you think the apt complex's are steep now mind you when we moved from a private residence we paid 3 months up front and that was with 770 credit score..and it depends on how many bedrooms you need...the apt complex's run specials move in 99.00 deposit then a admin fee of 300 total pocket without a pet is 400.00 trust me that is cheap...anyhow, there are quiet a few other choices and like Delray Patty said you cant go wrong with the schools here...Just also know that one side of Palmetto and powerline go to Olympic Heights HS the other side attends Spanish River, since I have experience with Spanish River and can tell you its a great school, and we know people who HAD kids in olympic and have switched schools your better off with Spanish River...if price is an issue Id look into West Boca and attend West Boca HS as that would be the 2nd best choice...good luck

Thanks for the input, ladies. Will keep that in mind. I'm leaning towards renting an apartment. One of the members in this forum suggested Gables apartment. I wonder if that complex is safe. We have looked at Addison place and it's pretty decent. Any thoughts?

I'm also leaning towards Gables. Looks nice and nicer than Addison right? Gym too, good school zone, beautiful grounds, safe and nice floorplans. see website if you're not nearby

Try driving from Boca to Miami one day. Drives aren't only measured in miles in south Florida. Robyn
