HUNTINGTON — Russell Lee took the last shot in Veterans Memorial Field House and missed.

Not that anyone at the “Farewell to Veterans Memorial Field House” event Friday night cared. Lee perfomed enough heroics during his Marshall University basketball career to provide plenty of memories.

Marshall stars came out nearly 100 strong for a salute to the Thundering Herd’s basketball home from 1950 to 1981 that is scheduled for demolition this spring to make space for a soccer complex and a veterans memorial park. The crowd turnout was estimated at 2,000 fans.
