Can anyone tell me anything about the town of West Union. I am thinking of relocating and would like to know what the area is like.

Red face West Union

Hi! Feline,

My husband's family lives in West Union. So he and I go there for vacations to visit relatives. It is a very small town. I am sorry but no big department stores, no movie theaters, etc. Why are you moving there? There are other places like Clarksburg?

Default Town of West Union

Feline,

I live 12 miles from the town of West Union...which, if you asked a year ago - I would of said "Who knows" - because it seems as if all the little towns are a world apart ...BUT, as of Feb of this year, I got to "know" the town quite a bit.

The town itself has a whole new "feeling", after they had their 125th Anniversary Celebration this past July. So many have pride in it's history, as well as it's future now. My cousin, runs 2 West Union websites. She moved there 12 years ago (I think and instantly fell in love - and really has shown others, who have lived there their whole lives, that West Union is a place to be. The entire town came together for this event (that she insisted on & put together) - They held contest on "What West Union means to me" as well as officially created the Town Seal (which I helped by making "camera ready")

Fell free to check out her site at westunion-wv.com as well as westunionfest.org (which is dedicated to the 125th Anniversary) ....I think you will find them very helpful in "knowing" West Union

And feel free to ask me any ?'s...

Kybare

Default west union

West Union is a pretty small town located in Doddridge county. It's near Route 50 and only a 20 minute drive to clarksburg. West Union has a dollar general, shop and save, a few local owned restaurants and that's about it. If you're looking for a safe quiet area, this is probably what you want. But if you want somewhere that has some action, West Union is more boring that watching paint dry and peel. Not too much going on. Most of what was downtown has closed. Almost all the stores have closed down. Just like everywhere else. If you have kids, they are putting in a new high school, and the elementary and middle schools are newer. Not sure what info you want. But I'm pretty familiar with West Union. I work there right now and my boyfriend's mom has lived there several years.

What are the winters like there? I'm looking at a historic home there. I'd love to buy it and fix it up in my retirement.
