There is also the Utica shale region, which is deeper than the Marcellus. There are rich natural gas deposits in much of WV with this formation, but the most valuable Utica formations are in Ohio. However, within West Virginia most of the assets are in the northern portion of the state.

Unfortunately for Cabell/Wayne, they seem to lack any significant shale gas plays with either formation.

From a pretty good source, could be a big announcement on this soon.

I'm assuming you're referring to the Wood County site. Do you know a time frame (for the announcement, project, or both) or the parties involved?

Nothing specific and no timeframes. But through the grapevine, someone who works on a committee stated to a close friend of mine that an announcement would be coming out "soon" concerning the cracker plant, and being this is Wood County I'm presuming it concerns Braskem, since that's been talked about for some time now. We'll wait and see.

That would be great. It would promote plastics related industries throughout the region. The entire Ohio Valley is a natural for that, especially from Parkersburg north, due to the availability of shale deposits there.

It is my understanding that the project will continue in planning for some time after the "announcement" is made. I am hopeful that the announcement is a "positive announcement" for the Washington Bottom area in Wood County.

If it follows how Royal Dutch Shell is conducting their site analysis, then that's what will happen. Many moving parts, but I feel good about our chances. Depending on how things move along, this project, should it come to fruition, could begin construction maybe a year or so after the Public Debt expansion. Parkersburg might be poised for a little modest growth by the end of the decade.

A cracker is logical for the mid to upper Ohio Valley, and the spin off effects will benefit everyone in the Valley including Huntington which would capitalize on the transport aspects. If this comes about, along with the Shell cracker between Newell and Pittsburgh, the Ohio Valley will see major growth in the coming years.

They need to complete WV Route 2 between Moundsville and Huntington, and I68 between Morgantown and Moundsville, to get ready for what is sure to come. This will mean thousands of good paying jobs... not some sort of tourism dream scenario.

Tomblin to announce cracker plant in Wood County

Well, it looks like you guys were right! Apparently, the company is Odebrecht, which owns Braskem.
