Anyone know more about this project in West Virginia from scott depot to ohio to make US 35 4 lanes?

Last time I traveled it: the new highway starts on I64 but ends at 34 only 5 miles later and you must take the regular old 2 lane road. I would really like to get into Ohio quicker anyone know how much longer it will take to complete it? or at least... will the next 10 miles open up soon?

Why do you want to get into Ohio quicker? There's nothing there! They all come here!

All kidding aside (only partly kidding -- or maybe not)

It looks like they are making good progress - but I wouldn't expect anything too soon.

35 from Point Pleasant down is looking good, turning into a 4 lane. They are working on the area around the Buffalo/Leon/Eleanor area. It looks like they are going to connect the exit in Scott Depot (at the end where it leaves off on WV34) to the part over in the Buffalo area and connect that to the piece over near the Henderson/PP area. By then your 35 should be all finished.

I, for one can't wait until it's finished either, it will relieve the traffic a little on 34. That road (as is US35) is notorious for accidents. And Teays Valley is a hellholle of traffic right now - so hopefully it will calm it down up there in TV Land.

That way they can leave the back roads to the Sunday Drivers! And yes, I am a Sunday Driver. Keep all you speed freaks on the interstates and major routes.

There is a WV DOH map which shows what is under construction, when segments are to be completed, when other segments are scheduled, etc.

Goto Putnam County Planning, West Virginia - see the box labled Special Notices to open the labeled map (it's in PowerPoint).

The way it stands now, that stretch of road is about the worst in the country and I've been on a lot of them. Two lane road, tons of potholes and non-stop truck traffic make it so. I put a big dent in my wheel after hitting a pot hole on that road. I hate driving on it, but there's not too may options for the way I want to go. I can't wait until they get the new four lane open.

Default Southern portion ready to open

According to WVDOT, that portion from WV 34 to existing US 35 at Lower Buffalo Bridge is to open on Monday, June 15th, 2009. The northern portion south of Point Pleasant is under construction and is scheduled tentatively to open in the summer of 2010.

This link to the maps on the WVDOT website

WVDOT - US 35 Project - Maps

gives a real good description of the various sections under construction. Unfortunately, the middle section is unfunded and unscheduled. Too complex for the Federal stimulus money for road construction; is about 5 years from being "shovel ready" provided it clears all USEPA environmental clearances.

Default Done!

The improvement project for US 35 from WV 34 to existing US 35 at Buffalo Bridge opened yesterday afternoon. June 15th, 2009.

The other section currently under construction, from the Ohio River south for about 8 miles, is to be opened to traffic sometime in the summer of 2010. That information according to the Projects page on the WVDOT website.

Enjoy.

I'm going to put driving the Cheat Lake Connector, from I-68 to PA Toll-43, on my Bucket List.
