You can hike down to the river from Hawks Nest, they have a nice trail that used to be an old railroad track. They offer boat rides (for a fee) up the river to see the NR Gorge Bridge from "down under". Worth the trip, and if the hike back up is too much for you ride the ski lift chair sort of thing!
If your looking for a nice, level hike, go to the Hawks Nest visitors center, and get a map for the Endless Wall Trail. It's a hike along the rim of the Mountain, and has spectacular views.
Hollister, I am not good at measureing how big things are. It is an easy hike/walk. You are young, I am 50+ and fluffy and I did it with no problem. Go for it!!
If you are going to Hawk's Nest - do NOT miss the nearby quirky little place called the Mystery Hole. Just takes about 10-15 minutes. Can't describe it but is well worth seeing. Mystery Hole Mystery Hole, Ansted, West Virginia
