My family (Myself, my husband, and our 13 mo. old daughter) is considering moving from VA to Charleston so I can attend Marshall Graduate School. I have been looking into craigslist and apartmentguide.com for rentals and can't find anything good (SAFE, nice looking). I am seeing nothing but old trailers and old duplexes. Aren't there any apartments complexes or anything? Where do I find GOOD rentals? Should I consider moving to Huntington and communing to Charleston for grad school?

Also, any other info on relocating would be great (like if its a nice city, friendly people, lots to do, crime, etc)

Thanks!

I would search South Charleston over to St. Albans area as that would be close to the graduate center. I would not make the drive from Huntington or even Putnam County toward Charleston. I-64 can be a mess at times with the traffic into Charleston. Check local realtors out at wvgazette.com. There are some multi-units in the area but I don't know them. South Hills out Corridor G is also pretty nice but the $$$$ will be higher there.
