I used to work on Wall street and it's not a great commute from Westchester. The added time and hassle of the always overcrowded 4-5 subway line really stinks. However, literally within one week of my leaving work in the city a ferry service was started from Yonkers. It drops you off right on the end of Wall street. I would have killed for that damn ferry while I was commuting. Try Hastings. It's right next to Yonkers if you want to try the ferry and it also has a pretty short train ride if you'd rather do that. It's a nice town and not super expensive. The schools are good too.
Wall St is not a great from almost anywhere in Westchester. Are you set on a suburb? You can get a decent 2BR in Park Slope or Bklyn Heights (possibly) for around that much. Your commute would then be about 15-20 minutes. Alternatively, you could pick a place in NJ where there's a direct commute via the PATH to the World Financial Center.
If you're going to do suburbs, I'd strongly consider White Plains. The commute (32 minutes on express) benefits from the fact that trains are very very frequent in the morning, which gives you flexibility. It is a great little city with a lot going on, and you'll get a lot more for your $

Some out there say that White Plains schools are "average" in the same sense about New Rochelle that I said in your duplicate thread on this subject (i.e. elementary school OK if you live in one of the "nice" neighborhoods, but not too good after that).
