I should know this after living in Mamaroneck for the past year, but alas I don't....
Another house we liked fell through, and now we found a house that we like that is in Larchmont, but not in the village (which is odd, because I thought that was all that Larchmont WAS). The zip is definitely Larchmont, not Mamaroneck, and most of the street IS in the village, but this house is 4 houses out of it.
Besides having to pay more for train parking, are we losing any other privileges by not being in the village? Is it really hard to park or get a seat on the 8amish train from there? Thanks in advance.
The village of Larchmont feeds into the Chatsworth school district and village homes tend to sell for a premium. The Murray Avenue school district is also highly regarded and other than parking privileges, houses in the Larchmont zipcode enjoy the same privileges as village homes. There are also several homes on the market now that geographically speaking seem to be in the village but they feed into the Central elementary school district. For whatever reason, (and I'm not saying this is correct), the Central school district is considered less desirable and this is reflected in the price of the homes.
For example, there are several homes on the market now on Cambridge court in the 1 million range that would probably sell for another 100K if they were in the Chatsworth or Murray school district.
We were looking at homes in Larchmont this past weekend but did not find anything we liked in our preferred school zone unfortunately.
