Westchester starter home - any ideas?
Any ideas from well-educated folks about a starter home/condo in Westchester that's reasonable to commute to downtown Manhattan from? In the $125K household income range. Thanks!

Depending on what size you could look into a Coop in Yonkers. Along Central Avenue the smaller 1 bedrooms may run you about that price range.

It is a buyers market right now for sure. I know of a starter house in Cortlandt Manor listed for around 400k, and I am sure there are more out there.

What's your budget? You've told us your income, but how much can you spend? Are schools important? How much of a commute will you tolerate?

Also...once you have decided on a location and how much you can afford, don't forget to factor in the taxes and the common charges. They can be pretty expensive even if you find something in your price range.

I am looking for a starter myself. I live in Yonkers, 2 kids 5 and 4 both in Montessouri schools. I can probably pay a mortgage of 1600 or so. I probably need like 2-3 bedroom. if you have any suggestions, let me know.

duchess or putnum will serve you well in your income group... but than it won't be a good commute.

My husband and I are starting over in NY with 3 kids that are 18, 13, and 11.
We once lived in Hartsdale, Poughkeepsie and Columbia, SC. We're heading back to NY to be closer to family in a few days. We've been looking in the Ulster Cty and Albany Cty areas? We've lived in excellent school districts such as Greenburgh, Arlington and Richland 2 in SC. That is always priority for us.
