I live in Yonkers and have my daughter in a private speced school. However, I think she's "outgrown" the need for the school and I want to move to a SD that will "do right by her" without a battle (of course that would NOT be Yonkers...). And yes, I know all about IDEA and all of that - been doing this for YEARS (and in fact taking an intense course to become an education advocate). I'm willing to help others, but am tired of my own personal battles.
We lived in Hastings. The Director of Speced there is a nightmare (I think she has a mental problem). So not going back there.
I THINK that Irvington, Scarsdale, Eastchester, Ardsley, Pleasantville and Briarcliff Manor run good honest programs.
and I'm talking about SDs that don't administer fraudulently insufficient testing to identify the child's needs, etc.
She'll be in 7th grade next year. I want to get her acclimated in middle school so she transitions into the high school well. She's bright, but was neglected severely as an infant (she's adopted) which has resulted in some executive functioning/processing issues. She needed a small class size, mostly, but she's better now.
I work in the City so quick easy access to MetroRail North is a necessity.
