I bought in LI, cheaper than Westchester and I'm on the water. My father has lived in Westchester his entire life and is DEFINITELY priced out. We are going to help him purchase a small studio/1BR coop to retire in and hope the common charges don't get too crazy.

I'd love to move back to Westchester one day, but its so ridiculously expensive now.

Red face Moved to CT

I sold a co-op in 2004 because I though prices could not go up any higher. Of course I was wrong! Sat for three years waiting to find something else-a condo-to buy but got tired and just moved to CT. Beautiful town, got a nice townhouse for the price of a 2 bed non luxury co-op and without any of the restrictions. But I am having a hard time adapting, White Plains is the only place I can call home so I hope to go back.

hey, not to worry I have a gut feeling that prices will fall this coming year and we can all go home you just need to keep the pressure on these rediculouse sellers out there and throw out some low bids.

Too funny- I was just replying to Ambar173 in another thread about Fairfield. We also decided to buy a family home in CT because we could afford something nice here, good schools. I really want to go back though- I'm starting to think a nice house and schools does not actually make for a good life- we have terrible commutes (our commutes were much easier in westchester- even coming to CT) and we miss the energy and diversity and proximity of family and friends and the city in westchester. We are considering going back and living in a cave or something...

Anaid,
We are living the same situation. I am actually considering buying a horrid co-op again just to live in WP. I am stuck home today...bad weather, Metro North failed...Like I said, beautiful town, great schools but too bad of a commute, and no affordable childcare either. What a shame...in the meantime, hope you do get the $45 spot soon so you can save something.

guys... guys... guys... I personally think that NY is not all that. city is too expensive anyways so yopu can't really enjoy it unless you are rich. and who cares about commute if you can fugure a way to work closer or stay hope. I personnally would rather the peace and quiet. :L)

Moved from East Fishkill to Raleigh, NC about 5 years ago

It was a good decision. I do miss NY but I still visit. My wife is able to stay home and raise our kids, we live in a house that would cost over a million bucks in NY, and our taxes are under $1500 for 2800 sq. ft. on an acre near 3 golf courses. We bought for 225K. No heating either! Yea!

Hey Ambar371:

Going back to a coop?

That's funny 'cause your support was very important as I was in the process of buying. So far so good, but you're right about the rules. I don't really like all the control about different things.

Anyways, since I moved to Westchester I've been to WP a few times and you are right, it looks like a great town!!!!!!!!!!
