Hi all.
We are a young Jewish couple currently living in the Pelham Parkway area of the Bronx. We are thinking of having kids in the near future, and would like to move to a better neighborhood. Westchester County is probably our first choice. Something close to the city, easy to commute. Our combined income is $150 at the moment. We were thinking of a 3-bed house (probably crazy, right?).

Any recommendation from the respected members of the board?

Thank you in advance.

I liked Larchmont when I went there for my car's maintenance.
I'm looking for a white area (some Jewish population is desired), close to NYC (Metro-North and buses), not totally dead in the streets with convenient grocery shopping. Good schools/child care.

I actually would like to buy a house. Don't think we can afford to pay more than 500-530k.

What is the general opinion of Tuckahoe village? Does it fit our criteria?

Tuckahoe is pretty nice, I'd check it out. Tarrytown, Larchmont and Mamaroneck are nice as well.

Since you are already in the Bronx have you considered Riverdale at all? The area around Johnson ave and 235th st is very nice. Lots of little shops and stuff to do.

I would like a good school district. We don't have kids yet, but are planning on this soon :-)) If I buy, I would like to stay until the kids grow up.
Fixer-upper is not a problem, as long as the price reflects that.
Thanks for your help.
