We sold our house recently in Darien and are looking in New Canaan, Pound Ridge and Bedford. We are looking for a more country setting with acreage. One of the agents I spoke to said that the PR schools weren't good for her kids and that we would be better in NC. Can anyone shed light on the Bedford/Pound Ridge schools? I have heard from another guy in Bedford that he threatens his kids when they are bad that they are going to Bedford public schools - he sounded snobby obviously and kids go to Rip Cisqua. I know Katonah/Lewisboro has better schools quote unquote.
Bedford Central is an excellent school system, especially Bedford Village elementary. Fox Lane high school is a bit diverse since it includes mount kisco, so its not 100% lilly white like some other westchester school systems (but this is a good thing). Its consistently among the top 2% of schools systems in the country.
Thanks, Neil. Would the same be said for Pound Ridge? She made it seem like it was OK for Elementary and then we should be concerned. I grew up in Katonah and Ridgefield so always liked Bedford. Do people feel like there is a lot around to do? Feels like CT has more going on in general on the 95 corridor. My wife is from Queens and concerned she would feel too isolated. What is the best way to cross check the schools to make sure they are what we are looking for?

Most of Pound Ridge uses Fox Lane (along with Bedford and Mount Kisco). If this person you're talking to is concerned about Fox Lane, they either dont approve of sending their kids to schools with diversity, or theyre just basing their criticism on some nonsensical standardized testing - in which case they're flat out mistaken.
I know plenty of people in Bedford who could easily afford to send their kids to Ripp, but literally see no value in it and send them to Bedford Central instead (me being one of them )

Yeah, she probably will be. She'll have to join clubs and volunteer at school, girls scouts, boys scouts, whatever. If she isn't used to driving everywhere, it could be a challenge.
On the other hand, Hudson Valley is some of the prettiest countryside in the world.
We like Bedford a lot - she likes it too. I mean it looks country but u are close to 684, Katonah, Mt. Kisco, Greenwich, New Canaan whatever. Guard Hill Road and the area is insane. I don't know if we can find what we are looking for in our price range but will try. Thank you all for answers. It is between Bedford and New Canaan. Like the magazine.
