I have 40-50 hard cover novels, mostly mystery/detective, all by best selling authors (LeCarre, Grisham, Ludlum, Reichs, etc) all in brand new condition and only 1-2 years old. I want to give them away but the local libraries (Greenburgh, White Plains) don't seem to be interested. Nor are the local hospitals including VA hospitals. Even Goodwill will take only a limited number. Does anyone know of an organization that will accept these books? I also have a similar number of soft cover books, perhaps a bit older. Sprinkled thru the hard covers are many David Sedaris books and some Time Life books.
You might try a retirement home, since many have libraries in them, and might be looking for books, since mysteries can be popular with many of their residents.
have you tried speaking with the assistant director at the WP public library? I used to have family that worked there, and I from experience that thats a good route to take. The assistant director is very accessible, her office is open to the public on the ground floor of the WPPL. You can also get in contact with I believe the "friends of the wppl" (I think thats the name) organization they are usually the ones who take books that are donated and they sell them for a 1$ or less in a small room on the ground floor lobby.
You could also try the Waterfront Library in Yonkers, I think they have a similar "friends" organization that takes in used/donated books.
I recently took alot of books to the half price bookstore and they not only took them but they paid me for them. I didn't get rich off the deal but someone else is going to enjoy the books that I no longer wanted and I got some gas money out of the deal. I couldn't ask for more then that.
There is also a used book store in Peekskill that might be interested in them.
