Back in Delaware we always went to a smaller church, who had a nativity scene with real animals (to pet), an adorable, mostly crying baby jesus , some carols and a childrens service (which means a (great) animated movie, some shorter prayers, cookies and milk.
our kids are older now (8-14), but they still insist on a childrens service .

is there anything comparable around here (we live in S.Asheville) ? where do you all go, if you go to church ?

You should probably state which denomination/s you'd be willing to attend. (ex. you might get annoyed if I said a baptist and you wanted Methodist.)

I've never been a fan of the kid type services (so can't recommend specifically) but know plenty of episcopal and Methodist churches in the area that do nice Christmas services. I do know the cathedral of all souls does a children choir service. If all else fails, look for churches in south asheville moreso because there are more families that way which would give way to children oriented services. Once you find a few just check their website or call and ask.

animals would be nice and we don't like it too stiff ... like being greeted by men in black suits and holy communion is something I don't need. I like it more relaxed, contemporary, plain ...... most of our neighbors who go church at all go to biltmore baptist, which is huge from the outside (and I usually go for the smaller ones )

I grew up with the two big churches in germany : lutheran and catholic. the choice was much easier - here I have such a variety and it's not that easy to choose (even that I never liked the lack of choice back home ....) but since it's not a life decision, we might give biltmore baptist a try.

Growing up in the south I know you gotta be careful with things like that. Just trying to be polite.

I would never go to biltmore baptist. Long story short they have ties with the nutjobs at ATI (aka a cult).

Ummmmm. Look into the episcopal church next to ingles on merrimon and the one on charolotte street near grove park inn. You could also try a Unitarian. In asheville that might be your best bet.

Good luck and happy christmas! Sorry I can't be any more help!
