Hi Everyone,
Does anyone have any tips on nice communities in the Asheville/Hendersonville area? We are moving from San Francisco, we have three children of Junior High High School age. My husband and I were both born and raised in California, but are looking forward to moving to the South. We are currently living in a small suburb of San Francisco, and are wondering if there are any tips out there on schools, communities etc. Thanks for your help.

Meredith and Duke101....looks like we're all from the Bay Area...(raised in Pacifica/relocated to Sac area 6 years ago)...now heading to Charlotte, NC.
Meredith, what do your kids think about the move....especially since they are in the teen years. I have a 7th,6th and 3rd grader. The idea of moving I think is growing on them and hopefully they will quickly adjust once we get there.

Hi Leeohana,
Yes, I emailed Duke and we both live in the East Bay. Small world!
My kids are excited about the idea of moving. None of us feel very at home here. I was born and raised here, but have lived elsewhere and know that life can be different. One thing my husband and I have always been impressed with is our kids ability to adapt. The kids are usually fine it's us that take a bit more time to adjust! More set in our ways I suppose.
How was Sacramento?

Hi to the 3 of you. I am moving up after the current school year from Fl. I have a high schooler as well.
I graduated from UNCA but moved shortly after. I have missed the mountains for 20 years and am soooo excited to be moving back.
I am looking at TC Roberson High school primarily. AC Renyolds also seems like a good school but my daughter doesn't want to be a "Rocket". Funny how these things matter.

Hey VBmom,
A fairly good web-site to check out is Greatschools.com. I always like to look at the "parent reviews". Will you be working there, if so where and doing what? I have learned to kind of ignor my kids on some of those "I don't want to be a "Rocket" things. We have a running joke in our house about going to "Bullfrog" high school (better to be a Rocket than a Bullfrog!). I am hoping to talk to people in the community also. I know where we live the test scores don't say it all!
We are still deciding what to do but have found this website very helpful. Good to read and see what is working for people.
Best of luck to you
~Duke101
I live in South Asheville in the TC Roberson district and my son is a junior there. It's a good school, no complaints whatsoever. I think Reynolds is good too from everything I hear.

Do you know anything about the Hendersonville Schools? What are the differences between the two communities? How is the humidity there (my husband is concerned, wants to know what people think). Thanks,
~Duke101
The average annual relative humidity in North Carolina is 65-75%, but the temperature varies more than 20° Fahrenheit from the Mountain to the Coastal Plain Region. Although the humidity does not vary greatly across the state, the heat index (comfort level) is much better at the higher elevations (above 2,000 feet above sea level) due to the lower summertime highs.
