Looking for a destination to take the family for 2-3days in the mountains.. Cabin style, somewhere we can get to some snow easily for the kids to play..

Any thoughts?

Banner Elk - stay in touch with Ray's Weather for the most up to date info. Plenty of cabin rentals in the area. Beech Mountain has a sledding hill separate from the ski slopes.

Or, closer...Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley.
If your kids don't ski, they have good tube runs.
Snow Tubing - Cataloochee Ski Area, Maggie Valley NC

General site:
North Carolina Skiing & Snowboarding at Cataloochee Ski Area, Maggie Valley NC

Lodging: can't vouch for any, as I live in area and don't 'stay' in MV:
Lodging Partners - Cataloochee

My guess is weekends are much more crowded, and if temps hold, the good base will hold up too. And, they make snow when it is cold enough.

From ATL airport to Cataloochee in Maggie Valley, GOOG Maps says it is 190 miles and 3hrs 20 Mins. We roll by ATL regularly, and we usually do it in 2 1/2 hrs or less, but we are maybe 15 mins 'closer' than MV.
Dunno where you are in 'Atlanta', but that should help time planning.
GL, mD

Most of this snow will be gone by the weekend (temps in the fifties). But search for cabins in Hot Springs. The snow will stay on Max Patch for awhile!
