Any suggestions on things to do (i.e., food, shops, etc)?

If you like to shop Tops for shoes is amazing and Malaprops for books. Depending upon your budget - the Marketplace is a great place for a quiet, romantic dinner - but pricey - make a reservation at The Lobster Trap - yum - but crowded.

I think the "Dickinson Christmas" will be in Biltmore Village this weekend, they have it all decorated up and carolers. Take exit 50 off I-40, go towards town, the Village is on the right several blocks, you turn in there anywhere and park on the street.

Visit the Grove Arcade downtown, park in the Wall Street deck, the arcade is across the street. They have local woolen knits and quilts, a few shops, small restaurants, it's a historic building. Nearby Wall Street is interesting outdoor pedestrian area, several neat shops, wear a coat.

Pick up a Mountain Xpress paper, it's free in many locations, turn to the music section, and there's bound to be a fun place listed there to go at night. Stay at the Renaissance Hotel downtown if you can, views, not too pricey. Eat at the Cafe on the Square or Tupelo Honey Cafe, both are really nice little places downtown.

Mast General Store is a nice place to shop, also downtown. That store is one of several branches from the main store that was founded up in the high mountains near Boone back in the 1800s.
