I am looking to relocate in a few years and will be looking for a medical coding job. Things I am looking for are beautiful scenery, little violent crime as I am in a very safe area now, things to do, places to shop, find things that I didn't know I was looking for as I am coming from a small town that I hate. How much snow do you actually get? Will I be welcomed as a new englander?

Thank you in advance.
You will find all that you are looking for here in Asheville/Weaverville/Black Mountain. I have not seen much snow since I've been here.
Check back before you decide to make a move. The weather is changing. Asheville grew out of a rain forest. Jobs here are low-paying. It's a tourist and looks like a medical monopoly (Mission primarily and there is the VA). Mission has also had many layoffs since the new President/CEO took over.
We moved from NYS. We were hit with a blizzard when we first moved here and I had to buy snow shovels we gave away when we left NY after being stuck for days in a house fortunately with a wood-burning stove. But that was 12/09. There has been little snow since then. The biggest problem our NY real estate agent warned us about was black ice and that is an absolute problem.

Solution to that problem: I-26 to Rt. 81, to Rt. 84. Just because you didn't do enough homework or research as to your wants and needs, or consider elevations, doesn't amount to a hill of beans for the rest of us who never look back. Interesting that NYS doesn't have black ice. Dang it.
