Headed to Hickory (Conover, Granite Falls, Mountain View: apartment, rental homes, house)

What are some of the best areas in and around Hickory for living? Moving from Atlanta. Don't mind a short commute. Just trying to get some ideas where to start looking for housing... It seems that rental homes are hard to find. Trying to avoid apartment living unless have to.

Any suggestions or information about the area would be helpful.

Where will you be working at? NE and NW Hickory are the better areas as far as housing is concerned. Mountain View & Vale areas are also decent, if you don't mind open spaces and being out "in the country". Conover is also a good little town, and has easy access to I-40. Granite Falls is a small town to the north, easy access to Hickory via Hwy 321.

I actually have a rental house coming available in Jan/Feb if you'll still be looking for places to live. Nice area of town too.
