I was also told, it's specific to the lot and approvals. It's also different if you are in city limits or outside. The best thing to do is when you locate a property, call the county/city. They will give you an idea on what is allowed and what isn't and how to go about it. I kind of got confused at first about buying land and putting a septic tank on it. I was told the land had to be at least .7 acres to have a septic tank. I was also wondering, how can they sell smaller lots that I was seeing on Realtor.com. I later found out from DHEC, that they do inspections for lots as little as .2. I called back to find out why there was a discrepancy. They explained .7 means it's approved and you just have to get your perc test done. Anything less than that, you would need to get approval to install a septic tank. I've learned so much on my hunt for land. Everyone at the county has been very helpful as well.
