Hi - still on my quest to find the right place to settle. As you can see from my previous posting, I have looked in TN and Northwest Arkansas and now am looking in Western NC. I have visited a few times but had previously spent time and considered Charlotte but have ruled out any of those areas. Decided to concentrate on the western side and there is so much to look at. I have been to Waynesville and liked that but also, based on your postings to others, might consider Brevard, Black Mountain, Boone, Waynesville, maybe that Burnsville. I need to find a GOOD realtor who knows that whole area and can help guide me. I am an RN (semi-retired) but also a realtor myself in Arizona. Any suggestions? Thanks

This covers a wide area. It’s possible you may find a realtor who is very familiar with the entire area, but I doubt it. You’re likely going to need a realtor for each area. I will PM you the name of a WNC real estate firm that has offices in each, if not all, of these areas. This may be a good place to start. I strongly suggest additional visits to each of these areas for as long as possible, so you can see and learn more about each of these areas firsthand. They are all beautiful..

Beverly-Hanks Realty covers most areas in the mountains . Guess I would say if your decide on an area they more than likely will have a local office near by . Just remember - Realtors will try to sell your There company listings before anything else. Look into where you think you may want to live to see if it may be what your looking for then spend some time on zillow looking at homes or property and google map for a better view over all some times . Might be a small local realtor fills your needs better.

Just remember that zillow or other views seldom give you a good indication of how much the land slopes. Some properties that look almost flat from the air or mapping programs are built into the side of mountains in WNC.
It may make a difference, but then again may be exactly what you are looking for.

Example: Our property slopes 10-15 feet from back to front, the houses across the street from us slope 50-80 feet from front to back of their lots. Makes a big difference when walking around on your property.

Yes - I agree....it is amazing how many small towns there are to see in Western NC. I have been on Zillow daily and will be taking another road trip out there this month or November. It's a long drive at 4 days from AZ (I have to drive as I have my dog with me). As a realtor for 20 years, I understand how difficult it is until you get out and "see" the property . I know that Landy person had posted a lot of their opinions as the various areas and that was helpful. Do you all have opinions as to the areas I mentioned. I like to hike and kayak (some) but mostly looking for clean air, quiet atmosphere with some amenities relatively close by like grocery stores, a hardware store or HD or Lowes, etc.,..Price range is somewhat flexible but capped around $450k-$475K range. Semi-retired. Thanks

Some of the towns on my end of WNC have nice condos and houses in that price range, all close to hiking, ski resorts, and/or some kayak areas. Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, Newland, Beech Mt, Sugar Mt, TyneCastle, Foscoe, Seven Devils, etc.

We have had good experiences with a couple of realtors in these areas. No.1 would be Lawson Fields grew up here and works out of the Sotheby's office in Tyncastle, No2 would be Jim Brooks, been here much longer than he will readily admit and owner of Beechwood Realty on Beech Mt, NC.

There are other posters on here that know the Asheville area very well and can steer you in that direction.
Good luck in your search..... it will be exciting.

Just PMed you. It’s really a matter of personal choice, which you can only get a feel for likely after multiple visits. All towns are unique and beautiful. My personal choices are Hendersonville, Brevard, Waynesville, and Black Mountain. Also like Sylvia, but it is smaller than the others.

Bottom line is if you like eastern mountains and North Carolina/Tenn mts in particular it's hard to go wrong with any of the suggestions here.

Thanks for offering to keep up posted, always good when a poster comes back for closure.

Pssst... it's against C-D's terms of service to name realtors in our public posts. Direct messages are the way to go.
