We're thinking of spending some vacation time in mid Feb. in Black Mountain. Is that a bad time to go? We don't mind cool weather, but we don't want it to be so cold and windy or rainy we don't want to get out of the car.

We also plan to spend some time at the NC Coast - same questions for that area too. (I'll also post this question at the NC Coast section.)

Tks

Expect normal highs of 52 and lows of 28 for Black Mountain in February.

It's not. The elevation is only around 2,400 feet above sea level.

Rainy? what is that? We are in the second (third?) year of an severe drought, so that is a very remote worry.

The French Broad River, the major river through Asheville is at a 117 year all time low right now.

I lived on the NC coast. You might not have to worry so much about precipitation, but depending on things, the wind can be bone-chilling in February. Then again, I have been to the beach on BEAUTIFUL, mild Feb. days, too.

NC weather is just so hard to nail down... anywhere across the state.

I spent my 1st winter here in the High Country last year and actually I am really looking forward to another 1. The air is crisp and cool and just BEAUTIFUL. AHHHHH...lol...I LOVED the really cold days where the frost makes the mountains look like diamonds! Very cool beans! Sunny days are AMAZINGLY sunny, yup, the sky is bright blue and it's GORGEOUS...lol...no I don't write for the chamber of commerce. There is also nothing cozier than a snowy day or dreary day reading a book next to the fireplace wearing my Mast General store Xmas socks bought after Xmas on sale and flannel pj's. Also, I must mention the wind....WOW...lol...nothing like sleeping w/ the wind HOWLING. Make sure you have a few hurricane lamps in case the power goes out! After 24 years of Fl, I can truly say I LOVED the winter!!!! Enjoy!
