Hi -
We are considering a move to Asheville however a major consideration is the political atmosphere. My housemate of many years thinks Asheville might be a good move from Miami however, I have never cared for the south in anyway nor have a ever felt comfortable around southerners even though I am a white female.
I am very far left of center politically and wanted to know if Asheville would provide an climate of like minded people and if the population is mainly people from more liberal areas.
The city of Asheville itself is very progressive, diverse, and one of tolerance. Most of city council leans left or even green. There is a pretty big emphasis on preservation and also making new construction fit in with the existing art deco and bungalow styles. Things are much more conservative once you get outside the city limits.
