I'm moving down and bringing my horse, how are the barns, riding activities, trails, horse life etc down in Wichita? Are there a lot of "horse people"? I'm also a horse trainer and ride hunter/jumper, coming from southeastern MA

I've known several people over the years who were "horse people", so there are definitely people in the area. Unfortunately, I can't give any kind of specifics on horse barns, trails, etc.

yeah, here in New England we have a 'bulletin board' on a website that is for each specific state, so far no luck finding that with any other part of the country lol

so far just found websites for barns in the area but nobodys emailed me back when i asked questions (i probably sounds like spam or something when i say i'm from Boston) but lets just say that $1000/month facility here in MA is about $300 for same facilities in KS.. liking that a lot! LOL so hopefully more people will have horses in KS

I've been starting to think about wanting to learn how to ride horses but the problem is..I contacted the Wichita Riding Academy two years ago and their going rate was $30 an hour!!!! Not sure if it's the same now.

here in Massachusetts, an hour private lesson can cost you up to $70 for an hour and $50 for a half hour, so consider that price CHEAP! lol the more laid back backyard barns around here a half hour lesson would probably be around $30 and $50 for an hour, but the nicer the barn & more experienced the instructor the more you're gonna pay.

Default Hunter / Jumper

Just saw your post.
Hope you got settled in Wichita.
Wanted to say there is a really good DVM in Wichita (north of Andover). He is meticulous in his denistry -- just had him do our horse and my goodness did the other vet miss alot. Wish I woulda' known about him first.
Also, this vet was a farrier before becoming DVM. He is known for his expertise is legs --sports medicine/equine osteopathics (wayyyyy better than regular chrio)!!
Its Dr. Hickman on east 29th street 733-2020

Marini you might also want to check the COTH boards... which I'm sure you might already know about. I know a few Ks peeps on those boards that are near Wichita...
