I know 10 stories isn't much at all as I would greatly prefer something 25 stories or taller, but this is at least a....start. There hasn't been a new office tower constructed in downtown Wichita in decades and the fact that this bank has decided to build a new headquarters downtown when they seriously considered moving away from Wichita speaks volumes. As I mentioned in another thread, had this been the late 1980s or into the 1990s, they would've gladly given Wichita the middle finger and left.

I saw this the other day as well! I think it's a great step and quality investment in downtown Wichita. Honestly there's quite a bit of energy starting to build down there. They've been doing the rehab thing for a while but there's a few new buildings taking shape. No huge skyscrapers but quite a bit of infill and design that brings more people downtown and to the sidewalks.

Hopefully Wichita will put in a new PAC next. CII needs to go and it would be good to get a project started while there is momentum downtown.

I have a feeling that is coming next. Century II is seriously outdated and renovating it would cost more than building a brand PAC or convention center and I think momentum is starting to build to tear down CII.

Kudos to Fidelity Bank and the Chandler family for their willingness to invest in downtown Wichita. Our city has some great momentum right now.

One of the biggest hurdles thus far outside of choosing a location has been the nonprofit group that owns the paramount theater organ and doesn’t want anything to happen one way or the other. The current director regularly whines on his personal Facebook account about how the organ doesn’t get enough attention or exposure while also saying that the group would likely move the organ out of state rather than a new PAC if they’re forced to leave CII. I’m guessing that he is a longtime resident/native of the city because that’s the same attitude that has held the city back for over 40 years and almost got the zoo defunded by the county a few years back.

My Wish List for Wichita:
1) New performing arts center
2) New college football stadium and DI football revival at WSU
3) No added tax burden from the above mentioned projects
4) Relocation(s) of corporate headquarters
5) Economy diversified from aerospace industry more into technology.

MAJOR Development news released for downtown Wichita and if this becomes a reality....WOW! I can't believe this even includes a 40 story tower which would become the tallest skyscraper in Wichita and the state of Kansas. What's really interesting is that is planned to be entire funded by a private group with now tax dollars used. There's still a lot of questions with this, but things are really moving for downtown Wichita. This is an exciting time!!

Company says they're ready to invest $1.5 billion in Wichita Riv
