As far as gated entry apartments, I can't answer that. Some of the apartments located within easy driving distance of Mid Continent Airport are:

Forrest Grove Apartments, Maple Ridge Apartments, Westlink Village, Remington Park, Windham Court, Newport, Raintree, Crown Chase, Colony West, Almond Tree, Aspen Park, Pawnee Park, Mt. Carmel, Westborough Arms, Alpine Lodge, Silver Springs, Lodge West, Galva, Kingsborough, Wind Ridge, Madison Park, Kingsley Square, Westport, and so on....

You'll probably just have to google these, call them, look at them, and make appointments to tour them, since I have no experience with any of them. However, like I said, they are relatively close to Mid Continent.

I recommend Windham Court Apartments (I currently live here). It's not gated but it's safe and they have a night security patrol. It takes me about 3 minutes to get to the airport by car from here. It's quiet (I've never heard jets flying overhead.) This place also has a pool, sauna, billiard room and weight room.

I'm also planning a move to wichita and I am looking for a fully furnished studio near the airport.
Anybody has any recommendations?

I googled Windham Court Apartments and there was two review there and they were both negative.
Here it is:

... This place is perfect for the out-of-control party kids. They love people who trash the place and don't pay rent on time. If you are trashy and messy, this is the place for you. ...

THIS APARTMENT IS FULL OF DRUG DEALERS AND DRUG USERS. BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU RENT, ESPECIALLY THIS PLACE. BE DAMN SURE YOU CHECK THIS PLACE OUT ...

Hey, I would love to help you out AvionicsTech, but I've never had any personal experiences with those apartments listed above. One thing to note, however, is that you will be able to get anywhere in the city and suburbs within approximately 20 minutes. So, I would also look into the Old Town area. If you're willing to spend a little more money (which by Kansas standards, is still not much), you could get a nice loft in that area. Just something to think about.

EDIT: Here's a list of some of the condos/lofts in Old Town:

It's not necessarily small, but it's certainly not Los Angeles, which has arguably the worst traffic in the US. You'll be delayed from time to time, but usually you'll have an easy go with traffic. Let us know if you need any other info.

Unfortunately, I have no idea. You might also look into Water Walk Place Residences, which I believe either opens soon or has already opened, River Walk Apartments, or 250 Douglas Place. I don't know about any of these having furnished units, so you'll probably just have to call them to find out.

Old Town is just to the east of downtown Wichita, or I guess you could say in the eastern section of the downtown area. Here's a Yahoo map. You'll see the orange shaded area labeled as Old Town.

Old town is where most of the trendy bars and clubs are at. I wouldn't recommend it if you're wanting a nice quiet place to live.
