I haven't tried every brand in the state, but of what I've tried, I'd have to say it's down between Shullsburg and North Country for me.

Ellsworth white curds are good. I like how they make them kind of long too. Not a fan of Ellsworth yellow cajun curds. They're kind of dry.

Upnorth here, I've only seen Shullsburg sold in Wal-Mart.

Waaaay up north (Rhinelander/Tomahawk area) Mullins Cheese curds are excellent! The Cheese Shoppe (Tomahawk) sells them.

Kid's Korner Pizza (Rhinelander) makes their own, I believe?
Fresh, squeaky curds every Thursday! Mmm mmmm!

Bletsoe curds are also very popular!!!

Mmm, I haven't tried any of those. Will have to someday soon. They have a Kid's Korner in my town but they don't make cheese curds.

I've been talking about that squeaky cheese forever, never thought I'd hear anything more about it. Good stuff.

I live in Shullsburg and the best curds around here come from Brunkow's in Fayette. Fresh every week and squeaky. BTW, leave curds out for 15 minutes before eating. They taste better and squeak.

a guy I work with wants some curds so this thread could prove interesting. I never remember to pick them up when I visit.. some good places along or near I-90 from La Crosse to the Dells, or highway 60 east to Ozaukee County I'd be on the lookout for.

Something that most people don't know...the only difference between yellow cheese curds and white cheese curds is....the color. There is no difference in taste as they are made exactly the same. The yellow curds are only different because "annatto vegetable dye" is added. Annatto is a natural vegetable dye used to give many cheese varieties, especially the Cheddars, a yellow-orange hue. Annatto is tasteless and is not a preservative. It is naturally derived from the Annatto tree.

I used to work in a cheese factory when I was a kid...and remember adding the dye. Everything else was the same.
