Any idea of the best artisan cheese locations in WI?
I am a cheese lover and was wondering where the best varieties of cheese reside? I like all kinds. Any great undiscovered handmade cheese out there? Nothing better than a wonderful creamy cheese, a loaf of bread and a rootbeer!!!

There is a map available that has a lot of cheese factories around Monroe/New Glarus area. We went to about 10 of them one day and brought home different ones. They were all so good.

Best Cheese locations
Go to the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board website. Anything and everything you could ever want to know about cheese is there.

If you happen to be in the Milwaukee area, there's a place just south on I-94 called Mars Cheese Castle that carries a variety of cheeses from around the state. Just about everything in the store is laughably overpriced, but it's the fee you pay for the convenience of having the best selection of Wisconsin artisan products (be it cheese, sausages, baked goods, wine or beer) under one roof. And to top off the experience, there's an old-school Wisconsin-style tavern in the back. Great place to catch a Packers game, especially a Bears/Packers game because it sits right on the line that divides Packers territory from Bears territory.

I highly recommend Carr Valley Cheese. They consistently win several International and American Cheese Society awards. They have a small factory outside of LaValle, WI, where I believe they only make cheddar, but their facilities in Mauston and Fennimore make wonderful cow and goat cheeses, and blends of both. It's also fun to watch them make. I have many favorites, but I love the Cave Aged Marisa, Shepherd's Blend, Canaria and Cave aged Mellage. I believe they also have a few retail stores. I know there is one in the Dells and possibly in Madison area.
Here's a link to their website
Carr Valley Cheese Company, Inc., La Valle, Wisconsin
