Is the Door County overrated? while I admit I have only stayed there one weekend and drove all the way through it twice two trips to the point and back and I didn't see what the big hype was. I have heard it called "The Hamptons of the Midwest" or the "Cape Cod" but I think Michigan has more "Hampton" type places than Wisconsin. The Dells are okay but Door County seems to be a dud. Can someone explain to me what is so special or beautiful about Door County?
Get off the main roads and you'll see the beauty. I have family there and it's peaceful and the shoreline is beautiful. I lived in michigsn for a few years and I do have to agree the shore along lame Michigan is beautiful as well
there's a lot of beautiful area along lake michigan besides door county. It has it's plusses but it's certainly not the end all, be all of beauty in the state. Over-rated in the sense that the cost of living has been driven up there and it's a bit of a tourist trap during peak travelling times... holidays, weekends, and the like.
Personally I think Devil's lake state park is more beautiful.
Door County is nice for a slow paced, easy going vacation. It is beautiful, in my opinion, because of a combination of small villages and harbors, with the rolling hills and ample waterfront. I worked up there a long time ago, and have vacationed there since. Definitely not Cape Cod or the Hamptons, but it is very nice.
I also agree that Michigan's shoreline is more beautiful than Wisconsin's, on the whole.
So like, if it weren't for one of its core defining features, people wouldn't be as interested in it? Well duh...
so like, you're making my point!!! how does being on a peninsula make it so much better?
there is pretty shoreline, state parks, light towers, B & B's , tourist shops, wineries all over Wisconsin
what's in Door County isn't unique to wisconsin or the tourist industry.
so you're telling me the food tastes better because you're on a peninsula? the prices are definitely higher b/c you're on it.
